The Digital Exhaust Timer

Now that the onset of cooler weather and the fall season is upon us, homes are being closed up in preparation for winter to follow.

With the growing awareness of energy consumption and the need for conservation, much needs to be said for the exhaust fan that has become a necessary part of our bathrooms.

Bathrooms are being designed as a rest and rejuvenation haven – an in-home spa, where much moisture is generated from steaming showers and long soaks in steaming tubs.

Exhaust fans have become more sophisticated to deal with this excess of moisture in our need for technological conveniences, given our hurried and distracted lifestyles. Think about the amount of moisture being generated in the home environment, creating the potential for mould to grow and flourish if not regularly cleaned and properly monitored.

One way to save energy in the bathroom once one vacates, is to have a timer switch on the fan. The timer can be set for the fan to function for a set period of time, enough to clear the air of moisture or odours from the bathroom before switching itself off. Timers are both convenient as they are highly functional in saving energy. Preset digital countdown timers can range from 5 minutes to 4 hours, and are relatively inexpensive to purchase from your local hardware store.

We can have the best of both worlds in exhausting moisture and odors out of the environment, and save energy as well when we walk out the bathroom door. The convenience of the digital timer gives us peace of mind and no worries if we have forgotten to switch off the fan. A win-win for the comfortability of the house and saving on the energy bills!
